Weatherproof The Roof In Time For Summer

It may still be winter, and summer is still several months away, but it’s not a bad idea to start inspecting your roof to make sure it’s in good shape. The constant changes in weather take a toll on the integrity of your roof and you’ll need to check for things like:

Cleanliness – Clearing gutters, removal of debris, etc.

Damage – Check the metal, tile, and shingles (to name a few).

Leaks – If it’s been raining and you’ve got an attic, you don’t want any pools of water collecting up there and causing mold to grow.

Our roofs are busy 24/7 as they fight off the elements, keeping us safe and comfortable year round. Before summer comes along and we start experiencing that 100 degree weather, get your roof inspected. If it’s been years since you’ve had it looked at, you definitely want to know what’s changed up there.

If you’re not sure that your roof has been weatherproofed, you’ll need someone to go up there and check under the tiles and shingles.

You will also want to make sure that your attic is insulated properly. Insulation helps from too many temperature changes that affect the roof.

Another thing to consider is the venting and whether the roof you have is made of fire proof materials.

Does this sound like too much to do on your own? It can be. After all, attention to the details is hyper-important for this kind of work. Making sure that all the bases are covered helps make your home stronger against rapidly changing weather (after all, in Los Angeles we’ve gone from 80 degrees to sudden rain showers from one day to the next).

We recommend that you hire a professional to help inspect your roof. They will come to you with the equipment necessary for getting a proper assessment. They can tell you what’s up there and what areas of it will need special attention given the region where your home is located. If you have a home in the desert, for example, you’d be interested in a roof that can withstand occasional snow fall. In Southern California, you’ll be more concerned about hot weather and rain.
