Looking for Cool Roofs? (Which Are Now REQUIRED in L.A.) We Can Help…

What is a “Cool Roof?”

Cool roofs are energy saving roofing that reflect sunlight and absorb less heat than traditional roofs. This helps lower the roof temperatures on hot sunny days and therefore keep homes cooler inside which helps you save energy by reducing the need for running air conditioning systems.

Although often light in color, cool roofs come in a wide variety of colors ranging from white to black and including blues, grays, greens, oranges, browns, and tans.

Why Should You Care?

If you’re like most homeowners who are interested in energy efficient roofs, then most likely you are very motivated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) cool roof rebates.

These rebates are available for single-family and multifamily residential customers. The base rebate is $0.20 per square foot and the enhanced rebate is $0.30 per square foot for qualifying roofs .

And of course… you should care because, well, it’s now required.

Is It More Expensive?

This really depends on several different factors such as the type of “cool roof” material you want to use. Most types of compliant roofs (such as tiles, flat roofs, and coatings) have little or no increased costs over non-cool roofs.

But again, it depends.

The good news is that some of our regular shingles actually pass as energy saving/efficient roofs. Be sure to ask us about that when you reach out!
